In a significant leap towards electrifying South Africa’s highways, Audi South Africa, in partnership with Rubicon, has introduced six new 150kW DC rapid chargers at strategic locations nationwide. This move not only underscores Audi’s commitment to sustainable mobility but also enhances the convenience for electric vehicle (EV) users traveling across the country’s main routes. A Strategic Rollout Across Key Corridors The new charging stations are strategically positioned along the N1, N2, and N3 corridors, ensuring that both urban commuters and long-distance travelers have easy access to ultra-fast charging options. These locations include: N1 – Fleurdal Mall, Bloemfontein: Perfect for a recharge when journeying between Cape Town and Johannesburg. N1 – Century City, Cape Town: Conveniently located for those navigating the Cape Town CBD. N1 – Tygervalley Shopping Centre, Cape Town: Just five minutes off the N1, serving the expansive suburbs. N2 – Galleria Mall, Amanzimtoti: Ideal for tourists exploring the KZN coastline. N2 – Somerset Mall, Somerset West: Catering to local residents and travelers along the N2. N3 – The Avenues Centre, Hilton: A prime stopover between Gauteng and Durban. Fast and Efficient Charging Each of these new locations features chargers capable of simultaneously powering two vehicles. The 150kW ultra-fast chargers can boost an Audi e-tron’s battery from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes, ensuring that drivers spend less time waiting and more time on the road. A Commitment to Electric Mobility “This third wave of investment into the public charging network in South Africa highlights once again our commitment to electric mobility,” said Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. “We believe EVs represent the future of our brand, both globally as well as locally, and we’re therefore playing our part in making electric mobility a convenient, straightforward reality for more and more South Africans.” Greg Blandford, Rubicon’s Energy and E-mobility Director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the groundbreaking nature of this collaboration. “Rubicon is proud to have collaborated with Audi South Africa on the installation of six cutting-edge Wallbox Supernova 150kW DC chargers. These chargers feature pioneering European technology and notably, stand among the first of their kind to be installed worldwide. This marks a major achievement for both Rubicon and Audi SA.” A Look Ahead Since 2022, Audi South Africa has invested more than R50 million in public charging infrastructure, steadily expanding the network to support the growing number of EVs on the road. With over 120 DC and AC charging points already in place, this latest addition further solidifies Audi’s leadership in the electric vehicle market and its vision for a sustainable motoring future. As South Africa accelerates towards an electric future, these new charging stations will undoubtedly play a crucial role in making EV travel more accessible and practical for all. Whether you’re a daily commuter or an adventurer on a cross-country trip, Audi’s latest investment ensures that the power you need is never far from reach.
