The crowded mid-size SUV segment has no shortage of bold promises, but few newcomers deliver substance to match the hype. Priced from R514 900, the newly launched Jetour T1 arrives with a compelling brief: premium design, genuine capability and a generous equipment list — all at a price point that undercuts many established rivals. Recently introduced to the South African market and already on sale in China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines, the Jetour T1 has enjoyed an emphatically positive global reception. In China alone, more than 17 900 units were sold within the first three months of 2025, a strong indicator that the brand’s value-driven approach is resonating with buyers. Early reviews have been equally encouraging, with international media describing the T1 as a “boldly styled, tech-rich SUV,” a “feature-packed value proposition,” and even “phenomenally good value with real off-road credibility.” Praise has centred on its rugged yet contemporary design, high-quality interior execution and equipment levels typically reserved for more expensive SUVs. That distinctive design language has already earned global recognition. In 2024, the Jetour T1 received the Red Dot Design Concept Award, acknowledging its boxy, purpose-driven proportions, the blend of classic off-road cues with modern styling, and an interior that balances toughness with everyday comfort. The award underscores the T1’s ability to straddle urban usability and outdoor adventure with equal confidence. “The Jetour T1 is quickly establishing itself as a strong value-for-money contender in the SUV segment,” says Jetour Vice President Nic Campbell. “As part of our newly launched T-Series, the T1 sets a new benchmark by combining style, performance and comfort in a thoughtfully designed, value-packed offering.” Internationally, the T1 has been lauded for its generous standard specification, including a large infotainment display, advanced driver-assistance systems and a spacious cabin that feels decidedly upmarket. Its turbocharged engine options, paired with a smooth-shifting dual-clutch transmission, have been praised for striking an effective balance between performance, refinement and everyday practicality. Local buyers are further enticed by Jetour South Africa’s comprehensive ownership package, which includes a seven-year/200 000 km warranty, a seven-year/75 000 km service plan, and an impressive 10-year/1 000 000 km engine warranty for the first owner. The Jetour T1 range in South Africa comprises four derivatives. Entry-level duty is handled by the 1.5TD 2WD Edge at R514 900, followed by the 1.5TD 2WD Aspire at R544 900. Stepping into all-wheel-drive territory, the 2.0TD 4WD Xplora is priced at R594 900, while the range-topping 2.0TD 4WD Odyssey comes in at R634 900. Across the range, standard equipment is notably generous. All T1 models feature 540-degree panoramic cameras, rear parking sensors, tyre-pressure monitoring, full LED lighting, electrically adjustable heated mirrors, roof rails and privacy glass. Power comes from either a 125 kW 1.5-litre turbo or a 180 kW 2.0-litre turbo, both paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The higher-spec Xplora and Odyssey models add serious off-road intent via Jetour’s XWD intelligent four-wheel-drive system, increased ground clearance and eight selectable driving modes, including Snow, Mud, Sand and X-mode. Inside, buyers are treated to a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, dual-layer soundproof glass, ergonomic seating and versatile storage solutions, while the Odyssey crowns the range with a Sony nine-speaker surround-sound system. Jetour’s momentum in South Africa is also gathering pace. December marked the brand’s strongest sales month to date, with 1 371 vehicles sold, placing Jetour among the country’s top 10 best-selling automotive brands for the month — a milestone driven in part by the arrival of the new T1 alongside its T2 sibling. In a segment where buyers increasingly demand more for less, the Jetour T1 makes a strong case for itself — not merely as a value alternative, but as a genuinely competitive SUV in its own right.
