Audi South Africa has made headlines with the R4.5 million sale of the only Audi RS 6 Avant GT on the continent. The Cape Town auction, held on November 7, 2024, presented local collectors and enthusiasts the chance to bid on the rare RS 6 Avant GT, a true one-of-a-kind in Africa and one of just 660 units worldwide. A portion of the proceeds from this historic sale will benefit the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, a leading South African NGO that provides educational support to underserved youth. The final edition RS 6 Avant GT, vehicle number 74, marks the pinnacle of Audi’s supercar legacy with its limited production and meticulous engineering, evoking the spirit of the legendary 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO. "The RS 6 Avant GT is an iconic vehicle that embodies Audi’s heritage of performance and innovation," said Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. "Its design and engineering are a tribute to over two decades of pioneering work in the high-performance family car segment." A Supercar for a Cause Audi South Africa’s commitment to social responsibility was central to this auction, with proceeds supporting the Kutlwanong Centre’s mission to empower students in underserved communities through STEM education. Since its founding in 2005, Kutlwanong has provided resources and mentorship to help young South Africans excel in mathematics and physical sciences, preparing them for careers in engineering, technology, and science. Through Kutlwanong, more than 40,000 students in township and rural areas have achieved a minimum of 50% in math and science, while over 12,000 have scored distinctions, helping to build a skilled workforce equipped for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Tumelo Mabitsela, CEO of Kutlwanong, expressed gratitude for Audi's support: “This extraordinary donation will allow us to further our mission, ensuring that South African youth are prepared to thrive in an evolving global economy.” For Audi South Africa, the auction was not only a chance to celebrate a hallmark in automotive engineering but also an opportunity to invest in South Africa’s future innovators.
