GWM South Africa has dialled up the tempo in the compact-SUV segment with the arrival of the refreshed HAVAL Jolion Pro, now officially on sale from R348 950. The update brings a sharper look, smarter cabin tech and a choice of three powertrains, positioning the Jolion Pro as a contender for young professionals and active families who want premium flair without the premium price tag. The Jolion nameplate has already proven its popularity locally, but the new Pro variant pushes the SUV into more athletic, more connected territory. It retains the generous cabin space and everyday usability that made the original such a strong seller — only now wrapped in a sportier shell and powered by more advanced drivetrains. Bolder Looks, Smarter Living Visually, the Jolion Pro introduces a smoked-black styling pack that strikes an instant chord: the darker grille, window surrounds and rear diffuser give the compact SUV a more assertive stance without drifting into gimmick territory. It’s the sort of visual boost that speaks to drivers who enjoy a little attitude in their weekday commute. Inside, connectivity takes centre stage. GWM has updated its system to support enhanced wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while a beefier 50W wireless charging pad and additional Type-C ports sort out device-hungry passengers. A more intuitive voice-command interface joins the mix, and even the steering wheel has been reworked — slightly thicker and sportier, aligning with the car’s new personality. Three Powertrains, Three Personalities The Jolion Pro doesn’t rely solely on aesthetics. Buyers now have three distinct power options: 1.5-litre Turbo Petrol (105 kW / 210 Nm): Front-wheel drive paired with a 7-speed DCT, aimed at value-focused buyers with a claimed average of 8.1 L/100 km. 1.5T S (130 kW / 270 Nm): A more athletic tune of the same engine, still mated to the 7-speed DCT, delivering livelier performance and an estimated 7.5 L/100 km consumption. Hybrid HEV (140 kW / 375 Nm): The flagship option blends petrol and electric motors with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), allowing EV-only running, hybrid driving and regenerative charging. Fuel consumption drops to a claimed 5.1 L/100 km, making it the efficiency champion. The step-up between the three is clear: the base model prioritises affordability, the S variant adds punch, and the Hybrid brings effortless torque with much lower fuel use — ideal for urban dwellers who log serious kilometres. Built for Real-World Lifestyles Practicality remains one of the Jolion’s biggest cards. The Pro variant carries that forward with versatile space, comfortable seating and family-friendly touches that make it an appealing first SUV for young buyers or a reliable daily for growing households. From school runs to long-weekend escapes, the Jolion Pro feels engineered around everyday life rather than just showroom appeal. GWM’s Head of Marketing, Floyd Ramabulana, summed it up well: the Jolion Pro was designed for drivers “who want to have a little fun with their everyday,” bringing a more energetic, more sophisticated flavour to the compact-SUV scene.
