ISUZU Motors South Africa marks a remarkable milestone in its bakkie production legacy with the introduction of the limited edition D-MAX 45. Priced at R906,100, this exclusive model celebrates 45 years of innovation and excellence in the bakkie segment. The D-MAX 45, based on the seventh-generation 3.0 Ddi Double Cab LSE 4x4 Automatic, will be available in limited numbers from late July 2024. This special edition stands out with unique features and accessories that enhance its appeal in the competitive bakkie market. A Legacy of Leadership Kevin Fouche, Department Executive: Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa, reflects on the journey: “The ISUZU D-MAX and its predecessor, the KB, have a storied history in South Africa, pioneering the double cab bakkie segment that dominates today's market. These vehicles offer practicality, versatility, and durability, making them favorites for both commercial and leisure use.” Since the first-generation KB rolled off the production line in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha) in 1979, ISUZU's bakkies have been a staple in the light commercial vehicle segment. The establishment of ISUZU Motors South Africa in 2018 solidified the brand’s commitment to local production, with the D-MAX becoming a symbol of this dedication. Distinctive Features of the D-MAX 45 The D-MAX 45 is powered by a 3.0-litre Ddi intercooled turbodiesel engine, delivering 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system with a standard differential lock. This robust powertrain is designed to handle challenging terrains with ease. This limited edition model features a gloss black front grille, lower fog lamp facia accent garnish, 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, and a black Rhinoman X-pedition canopy. A special 45-year commemorative badge and a black ISUZU decal on the tailgate highlight its exclusivity. For practicality, the D-MAX 45 includes a tailgate assist feature and a spray-on bedliner, ensuring the load compartment remains scratch-free. Color options for this model include Desert Orange, Splash White, Mercury Silver, Biarritz Blue, and Islay Grey. Inside, the D-MAX 45 boasts partial leather seat trim and durable Bundu Basher rubber floor mats, making it ideal for off-road adventures. Modern conveniences such as a wireless charger and a nine-inch touchscreen multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enhance the driving experience. Safety is paramount in the D-MAX 45, which comes equipped with multiple airbags and advanced active safety features like ABS with EBD, ESC with Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Trailer Sway Control. Honoring a Proud Heritage The D-MAX 45 not only commemorates ISUZU's history but also its numerous innovations, such as introducing rack-and-pinion steering and independent front suspension in the early 1980s. The KB's evolution continued through generations, setting records and establishing benchmarks in the industry. From the pioneering Turbo Blazer in 1993 to the launch of the double cab segment, ISUZU's bakkies have consistently led the way. The establishment of the ISUZU Off-Road Academy in 2011 further exemplifies the brand’s commitment to enhancing the ownership experience.
