The introduction of Hino South Africa's 700 Series truck range has marked a significant milestone in the company's growth trajectory. Over the past year, the new 700 Series has not only doubled Hino's market share in the extra-heavy truck segment but has also introduced innovative financing options that have resonated well with customers. Between July 2022 and June 2023, Hino recorded sales of 239 units in the extra-heavy segment, predominantly featuring top-end models from the 500 Series. The previous iteration of the 700 Series contributed an additional 24 units. However, the launch of the new 700 Series saw a remarkable increase, with sales reaching 295 units in the subsequent 12 months, elevating Hino's total sales in this segment to 513 trucks. "The reception of the new 700 Series has been overwhelmingly positive," stated Itumeleng Segage, General Manager of Hino SA. "Customers have praised the truck's comfort and suitability for regional hauls. It offers a robust performance, exceptional stability on the road, and impressive fuel efficiency compared to local competitors." This launch represents the first full model change for the 700 Series in seven years, bringing significant improvements that have attracted a new customer base. The upgraded model is now better positioned to compete in the extra-heavy segment, featuring advanced safety systems while maintaining Hino's commitment to relevant technology suited for African conditions. A standout feature of the new 700 Series is the introduction of three driving modes—Eco, Power, and Normal—allowing drivers to optimize performance based on their needs. The Eco mode prioritizes fuel efficiency, Power mode enhances performance for overtaking and climbing, and Normal mode balances the two. Additionally, the 'Eco-tree' provides drivers with real-time feedback on their driving efficiency. Hino's after-sales service is another key factor driving customer satisfaction. The 700 Series can operate up to 30,000 km between services, depending on operating conditions. The standard warranty can be extended, and competitively priced service and maintenance plans are available. Moreover, the Hino Connect management system offers transport operators fixed operating costs, further enhancing the appeal of the new 700 Series. With these advancements and customer-centric features, Hino South Africa's new 700 Series is set to continue driving sales and expanding its footprint in the extra-heavy truck market.
