The buzz around BAIC’s upcoming B30 SUV is growing louder ahead of its official South African debut in November 2025 — and for good reason. With prices expected to start at around R550,000 for the petrol models and top out at approximately R700,000 for the flagship hybrid all-wheel-drive version, the B30 looks ready to challenge some of the most established names in the midsize SUV class. The B30 first made headlines at this year’s Festival of Motoring at Kyalami, where it drew big crowds eager to catch a glimpse of BAIC’s next-generation design language. Positioned neatly between the rugged B40 Plus and the sporty X55 Plus, the B30 promises to deliver the perfect mix of everyday practicality, hybrid efficiency, and off-road confidence. Festival Favourite, Built for Adventure Those who attended the Festival of Motoring 2025 couldn’t miss the B30’s bold styling — a muscular SUV stance accented by a sharp grille and sleek LED lighting. But beyond the eye-catching looks, the B30 impressed with its refined interior, generous space, and modern tech. According to BAIC South Africa’s Brand & PR Manager, Ameena Hassan, the Festival offered a perfect opportunity to showcase how far the brand has evolved. “The B30 embodies the future of versatile mobility — it’s powerful, intelligent, and designed for real-world driving,” she said. Inside the Cabin: Comfort Meets Connectivity BAIC has clearly aimed to blend style and substance inside the B30. Drivers can expect a cabin that feels both premium and practical, featuring flat-folding seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a massive 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with full smartphone integration. A fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and voice-command controls make the experience feel distinctly upmarket. Adding to its tech edge is BAIC’s new Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), offering adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera view — features more commonly seen on high-end European models. Under the Hood: Turbo and Hybrid Power Two turbocharged petrol options will headline the launch: the B30 LV2 and B30 LV3, both powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 138 kW and 305 Nm. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, these variants promise smooth performance and impressive fuel efficiency — averaging 6.8 to 7.2 L/100 km. For drivers seeking a greener edge, BAIC has gone big with hybrid technology. The B30 LV4 HEV combines the same turbo engine with an electric motor to produce 180 kW, delivering effortless acceleration and quieter city driving. At the top of the range, the B30 LV5 HEV AWD unleashes a commanding 301 kW and 685 Nm, supported by a terrain management system and real-time all-wheel drive. Despite the power, fuel consumption drops to a remarkable 5.85 L/100 km. Global Footprint, Local Focus Already sold in China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, Egypt, Angola, and Panama, the B30 (known elsewhere as the BJ30) arrives in South Africa as the brand’s first right-hand-drive market introduction — a clear sign of BAIC’s commitment to growing its African presence. Local assembly will soon follow at the Coega plant in Gqeberha, further cementing BAIC’s investment in the South African market through job creation and skills development. Pre-Orders Open — With Exclusive Launch Rewards South Africans eager to get behind the wheel won’t have to wait much longer. Pre-orders open from 24 October to 7 November 2025, with several enticing early-adopter rewards: Deposit Expansion: Pay a R5,000 deposit and get R25,000 off the purchase price if the sale is completed within 15 days of launch. Trade-In Bonus: Existing BAIC owners earn an extra R10,000 on trade-ins. Launch Experience Draw: Ten lucky pre-order customers will win a trip to Johannesburg for the nationwide launch celebration in November. Built for South African Roads From the city grind to gravel trails, the B30’s suspension tuning and 215 mm of ground clearance make it ready for local conditions. The hybrid options promise long-range efficiency, while the petrol models balance performance with everyday usability. As Hassan summed up: “With the B30, BAIC isn’t just launching another SUV — we’re introducing a new level of power, versatility, and innovation designed specifically for South African drivers.”
