Hilux reigns supreme, Toyota secures 24.3% market share, and dominates passenger, LCV, and MCV segments. Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has once again asserted its dominance in the local automotive market, achieving a market share of 24.3% by selling 9,743 units out of the 40,072 vehicles purchased by domestic customers in June. TSAM led the Passenger, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), and Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) segments with impressive market shares of 23.4%, 30.1%, and 26.4% respectively. Hilux: The Unrivaled Favorite In the fiercely competitive LCV segment, the Hilux continues to be South Africa’s favorite bakkie, with 2,435 units sold. Notably, the recently launched Hilux GR-S III contributed 113 units to this tally, while the new Hilux Raider 48V added another 99 units. The Hiace also made a significant impact with 381 sales, and the Land Cruiser 79 pickup sold 258 units. Outstanding Passenger Vehicle Sales Toyota’s passenger vehicle lineup delivered stellar performances, with four models securing spots in the top ten. The Corolla Cross emerged as a standout, ranking second with 1,578 units sold, 800 of which were hybrids. This highlights Toyota’s leadership in the New Energy Vehicle sector in South Africa. The introduction of 48V technology to the Hilux and Fortuner models aligns with Toyota’s commitment to eco-friendly technologies. The Starlet also performed well, securing fourth place with 1,171 units sold. Strong SUV Sales Several of Toyota’s SUV models also achieved remarkable sales. The Fortuner, known for its off-road capabilities, claimed sixth place with 972 units sold. The Land Cruiser Prado rounded out the top ten with 694 units, thanks to the recently launched new generation. The Land Cruiser 300 saw 133 units sold, and just outside the top ten, the fuel-efficient Vitz found 542 new owners during Youth Month. Luxury and Commercial Segments In the niche luxury segment, 69 Lexus vehicles were sold. On the commercial front, the Hino 300 series led the MCV segment with 93 sales, while the Hino 500 series secured 64 units in the HCV segment. Parts Distribution Milestone On the parts front, over 1.3 million pieces were distributed locally, with 277,275 pieces exported to foreign markets.
