Ford Racing has unleashed its most extreme Dark Horse yet, and it’s designed to blur the line between circuit dominance and road-going brutality. The new Mustang Dark Horse SC is the most advanced, most powerful and most track-capable Dark Horse ever built—drawing directly from Ford’s global motorsport programme and decades of competition success. Engineered, developed and manufactured in-house by Ford Racing, the Dark Horse SC sits above the standard Mustang Dark Horse and just below the ultra-exclusive Mustang GTD. It delivers a significant jump in horsepower, torque and dynamic ability, positioning itself as a serious challenger to Europe’s premium performance coupes—while proudly retaining a supercharged V8 soundtrack that many rivals have abandoned. Born on the Track, Built for the Road The Dark Horse SC benefits directly from technology and hard-won lessons learned through Ford’s Mustang GT3 and GTD racing programmes. According to Ford Racing global director Mark Rushbrook, the model represents the next step in Mustang’s evolution as a global performance brand. “Since introducing Dark Horse in 2022 and Mustang GTD in 2023, we’ve shown that Mustang can take on the world’s best,” said Rushbrook. “Dark Horse SC brings our race and road operations together in a way that delivers real, tangible performance benefits.” Supercharged Power and Precision At the heart of the Dark Horse SC is a supercharged 5.2-litre V8, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission designed for rapid, precise shifts. The result is explosive straight-line performance backed by a visceral soundtrack that remains central to Mustang’s identity. But power is only part of the story. Engineers scrutinised virtually every component—engine, gearbox, suspension, aerodynamics, cooling, braking and steering—to elevate the Dark Horse’s capabilities well beyond the standard model. Development testing was conducted alongside the Mustang GTD and GT4 at demanding circuits such as Sebring and Virginia International Raceway, using Ford’s most elite machinery as benchmarks. Sharper Handling, Greater Control Every Dark Horse SC is fitted with next-generation MagneRide dampers featuring upgraded hardware and software, revised spring rates, new stabiliser bars, updated knuckles and modified control arms. Lightweight forged suspension links and a magnesium strut tower brace reduce mass while improving steering feel and responsiveness. Ford Racing also reworked rear suspension geometry and steering hardware to deliver flatter, more precise handling than the 5.0-litre Dark Horse—making the SC not just faster, but more confidence-inspiring at the limit. Track Pack: Turning the Dial to Maximum For drivers seeking ultimate capability, the optional Track Pack takes the Dark Horse SC into near-supercar territory. A bespoke MagneRide calibration works in harmony with carbon-fibre wheels and custom-developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres—305/30R20 up front and 315/30R20 at the rear—developed using Mustang GTD technology. Variable Traction Control, derived directly from Ford’s racing experience, allows drivers to select up to five levels of intervention or fully deactivate stability control for uncompromised track driving. Braking performance is equally serious. Standard Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers already deliver formidable stopping power, but the Track Pack upgrades to Mustang GTD-derived carbon-ceramic brakes with massive 16.5-inch front discs. These significantly reduce unsprung weight, improve thermal management and contribute to the Track Pack’s 150-pound weight saving. Aerodynamics with Purpose Track endurance and cooling efficiency were key design priorities. The Dark Horse SC features a redesigned front fascia for improved brake cooling, while a vented aluminium hood with standard hood pins enhances powertrain cooling and front-end aerodynamics. At the rear, a revised diffuser improves axle cooling, while a large belly pan manages airflow beneath the car. Track Pack models gain a ducktail-style rear decklid and an updated carbon-fibre wing with exposed endplates and lightweight stanchions—boosting aerodynamic efficiency by around 10 percent without compromising rear visibility. In Track Pack form, the Dark Horse SC generates an impressive 620 pounds of rear downforce at 290 km/h (180 mph), firmly placing it in elite performance territory. Purpose-Driven Cabin, Customisable Style Inside, the Dark Horse SC adopts a GTD-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in leather, with Alcantara and carbon-fibre accents throughout the cockpit. Track Pack models receive Recaro sport seats trimmed in leather and Dinamica, Space Gray or Teal accents, and a rear seat delete with a storage shelf. Personalisation plays a big role, with optional carbon exterior packages, multiple brake caliper colours, five seat belt colour choices and painted exterior graphics. For 2026, Ford Racing will also offer limited-run Track Pack Special Editions, featuring exclusive finishes, GTD-derived 3D-printed titanium accents and Solar Red interior highlights. A True Track-to-Driveway Mustang With the Dark Horse SC, Ford Racing has created a machine that genuinely connects motorsport engineering to everyday usability. It joins an already formidable Mustang performance lineup that includes Mustang RTR, Mustang GT Performance Package, Dark Horse and the GTD halo car. Order books for the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC open in spring 2026, with deliveries expected in summer. Pricing will be announced closer to launch—but one thing is already clear: this is the most thrilling Dark Horse Ford has ever unleashed.
